| subject: | Internet addresses in the Fidonet nodelist |
* Crossposted in FTSC_PUBLIC
I am interested in learning about work being done that will allow
Internet-only systems to be listed in the Fidonet distribution nodelist,
including existing constraints on the problem.
The phone field is the most obvious place to put an Internet address, but
one must then avoid causing problems for any software that might interpret
the period, forward slash, ampersand or colon in some other way.
Dallas Hinton, RC1:17 has suggested a new generation MakeNL clone to handle
the nodelist creation, together with a nodelist compiler allowing the
following user options:
- use the nodelist directly by systems with direct Internet capability
- for systems without direct Internet capability, one of the following:
- translate Internet-address systems into PVT nodes, or
- translate them to HOST or HUB routings.
All information and constructive suggestions most welcome.
