Stephen was hit by a Randy Johnson fastball for uttering:
SF> I didn't see Brown all year, but I heard or saw every game the Braves
SF> played. Maddox, as good as he is, tends to make ONE mistake per loss and
SF> that is the mistake that kills him. Smoltz makes LOTS of mistakes, but
SF> they are usually non lethal ones. As a result, Smoltz gets into more
SF> trouble, but pitches through it better than Maddox, who gets into hardly
SF> any trouble at all.
For a guy who says that he heard or saw every game, you certainly don't show
it. ANY mistake the MaddUx made was lethal because he got damn little in run
support. Smoltz could afford to make mistakes because he had a lot more to
work with in terms of runs. His mistakes caught up with him more later in the
season as he stopped getting 7+ runs per game. Give MaddUx that kind of
support and he'd have had a year every bit as good as Smoltz.
