subject: various policies

PE> Who says I want to be mean?

PE> Anyway, all your points are covered by the following policy

 PE> document:

PE> Policies of the Ten Minute Limit

 PE> --------------------------------

 PE>

 PE>

PE> This file is not meant to be complete, just meant to be an answer

                      ^^^^ ^^^^

PE> to some commonly asked questions, provide info, etc.

PE> 1. TML was set up in response to my own concerns at the time, that

PE> an ordinary user had no access to a reliable mail feed, and that

PE> becoming a point off anyone was considered something only available

PE> to important people. The main purpose of TML is to plug that gap.

We all have Good intentions to start with.

PE> 2. The sysop of TML is also a normal user, and posts from point

PE> number 9. Therefor it is his vital interest that 3:711/934

PE> remains a reliable mail feed, so that he gets his own mail.

PE> 3. Anyone who wishes to join in and have access to a reliable mail

PE> feed is welcome. Anyone who is looking for interactive chat, or

PE> some other service not related to reliable mail, would do well to

 PE> look elsewhere.

Thak god, my chats aren't interactive.

PE> 4. As a point, it is your responsibility to comply with the

PE> technical requirements of the FTS and FSC specs. If you are

PE> found to not be complying with them, you will be asked to

PE> either reconfigure your software, or change software. Anyone

PE> who maliciously sends mail through my system that is non-compliant

PE> will cease to be able to send/receive mail through me.

PE> 5. As a point, it is your responsibility to abide by the moderator's

PE> decision in any echo. If a moderator decides to kick you out, then

PE> just kick yourself out. If a moderator sends me mail saying to kick

PE> you out, I will in turn tell you to kick yourself out (just not

PE> posting any messages in the echo will be sufficient). Any further

PE> messages posted in the echo after that will cause you to be kicked

PE> off TML altogether, not just that echo.

Would you happen to be the Moderator of this echo

PE> 6. If you are after a system where you can post out-of-spec messages

PE> and ignore the moderator when he kicks you out, you will have to

PE> find another system with that sort of policy. Unfortunately I don't

PE> know any like that, so I can't refer you to one. You can start your

PE> own system though, FREQ POLICY4.* from 3:711/934 and follow the

 PE> directions.

PE> 7. This system uses a Netcomm M34F modem. If you are having problems

PE> connecting, you can ask and I will try to help find a workaround. You

PE> should be prepared to run a long series of tests and collate the results

PE> (possibly with results obtained from other points) yourself. Do not

PE> waste the sysops time if you are not prepared to do this.

PE> 8. If you would like the sysop to use a different modem, then you

PE> will be responsible for the purchase and delivery of the modem to

I would be willing to give you a Courier, If I knew you would

apreciate it. But from what I've seen, you would not appreciate

a Rolls Royce. (Though no doubt you would present the parent

company with a list of what they could do with their product.)

PE> the sysop's door. The new modem must be at least as good as the

PE> old one (in the sysop's opinion), and the old modem will not be

Wouldn't have to be very good then would it.

PE> given to you in recompense. If, after some time in operation, the

Wouldn't want your Choice of modems, sorry

PE> new modem is found to be not to the sysop's liking, you will be

 No doubt about that.

PE> able to have the modem back. You will be responsible for picking

PE> up the modem from the sysop's door. However, until that time, the

PE> modem remains the property of the sysop. Alternatively, you may

PE> arrange in advance to send a cheque to cover the cost of the

PE> modem, the hassle of going to the bank to cash the cheque, and the

PE> hassle of going to the shop to buy the modem. $200 should cover

PE> the cost of the last two items. Please note that if you wish to

PE> send me a non-Austel-approved modem, you should send an additional

PE> $15000 to cover the cost of any fine that I may incur.

You are just trying to score a modem without you turning over a

cent.

Mean, Selfish, Tight bastard, So only your time is worth money..no

one elses is.

PE> 9. The sysop does not charge for access to the system, unlike many

PE> other BBS's, so does not have a pool of user's money that can go

PE> towards things like new modems and extra phone lines. However, the

PE> sysop does not want money from users, since he already has a modem

PE> and an extra phone line, so it isn't costing him any money to run

PE> the BBS. So long as it continues to not cost him anything, he

PE> neither expects nor wants any money from users. From time to time,

PE> the sysop may choose to upgrade his modem out of his own money.

PE> You will know that this has happened when you see an announcement

PE> in LOCSYSOP to this effect.

I thought life was all about giving and taking.

The Giving of anything (a service) has no value, if it does not cost the

giver anything. If this service costs the giver something, then

there is much more appreciation and satisfaction on both sides.

PE> 10. The overriding concern of the sysop is to get a reliable mail

PE> feed for himself. Anyone caught doing anything to endanger (in

PE> the sysop's opinion) this will be kicked off the system.

PE> 11. The sysop will not censor anything you post in an echo, that is

PE> the job of the moderator. So long as you respect the points as above,

PE> you should feel free to post whatever you like, and abuse the crap

PE> out of the sysop as much as you like.

I'm trying to comply with these wishes

PE> 12. The system, being primarily for mail, will also have some

PE> additional features from time to time, e.g. being able to put

PE> files into "Special Requests" so that others can FREQ them, or

PE> routing files to points. None of these features are guaranteed

 PE> to continue.

The only WORK Some people can do is, make Policies and Rules and Bug lists

for other people to do the actual backbreaking work in carrying out

their wishes. Bluff and bludge their way though life (and oh! do a

bit of Dictating and Delegating, to make it look like they are doing

all the work)

Do you come under this category. I see that you are always making

rules and bug fix lists and now you are into policies as well.

Life is a bit one sided, Ay

Russell
