I was under the impression that the ROM was soldered only in the DSVD Sportie, which is indeed a flash-ROM model. In fact, I'd go as far as to say that no manufacturer in their right mind would fail to socket their EPROMS, something which would make bugfixes and upgrades an absolute fucking nightmare. I can't recall a single V.34 or V.FC modem where the ROM wasn't socketed (although I suppose that sooner or later, some fuckwit will get around to it)...
