 That's an acceptable method for busy roads... BUT... you should get off
 and WALK the BIKE... cross walks and cross overs are PEDESTRIAN facilities.
 Remounting and starting off again should be done with care... and legally.

 look for you... typically near the right edge of where the cars drive...
 and certainly NOT randomly, in the middle of a block without looking...
 Mid block entries from lanes and parking areas is legal, if you stop and
 look, yielding if needed... Just like driving a car.
 CC>sidewalks are nice thing in the down town area sometimes
 Vernon allows bikes on sidewalks, except for those downtown that have
 NO CYCLING signs... Funny that those ones have the most bikes on them...
 In any event, People on Bicycles should always ride so as NOT to be a
 nuisance or hazard to the pedestrians... regardless... even if you have
 to walk the bike (or rollerblades or whatever).  You can ride on the road
 if you want, but the peds are not going to try that mostly...
 If they do, they have specified rules to follow while there...

 AH.. now you start to see what happens with Bikelanes... they too would
 get parked on, and covered with garbage... that's why experienced riders
 tend to use the car portion... that is, all of the road, but NOT the 
tters.

 Speed difference is a hazard (mostly thru judging closure time)... but
 the speeders other attitudes are more likely to cause problems than the
 speed...  Luckily in Vernon you can get most places by other routes...
 You should see what it's like outside town on 97 and 6 riding at busy times.
