two choices after that:

10.0\Word\Options\OutlookEditor\   that's blank
11.0\Word\Options\OutlookEditor\   that's blank

Using your approach, I did a complete search on "Outlook". 
Didn't find anything that suggested using Word (or anything else) as the
editor.

But then I GOT SMART ... I gave up looking for Office and Outlook and OE.
Instead, I clicked on Start | Control Panel | Internet Options | Programs
and there it was:  email was being handled by Outlook.  I changed it to OE
and things are now back to normal.

Thanks ... once you had shown me where it wasn't, I had a good idea of
where it was.  As Holmes said, "Once you have eliminated the
impossible, what remains must be the truth."

(I must owe you a small brewery's annual output by now!)
