| subject: | Re: MS wireless behavior by design? |
From: "Frank Haber" I've used only Linksys WRT54Gs so far, the famous hackable one. They've become fairly reliable recently with the 2.xx software. At least they've stopped locking up, dropping wireless entirely, and other lovely tricks. I've shut off UPnP here, but many, many machines come through here with UPnP up, and I've seen no problems. I use it 90% wired, and that's just fine, except the DHCP is kinda brain-dead, keeping old dupe local entries for a long time - weeks. It's a touch slower than my wired routers, just a touch less crisp. The v.2 software is lots faster than the old stuff. I'm not satisfied with either of the third-party firmwares for the 54G, and I haven't gotten back here, since they're not reliable for VPN, for me, yet. I don't use the power boost, since 802.11 is such a crapshoot in dense, thick-walled NYC anyway. --- BBBS/NT v4.01 Flag-5* Origin: Barktopia BBS Site http://HarborWebs.com:8081 (1:379/45) SEEN-BY: 633/267 270 @PATH: 379/45 1 633/267 |
