If you are connected to start with.  Personally I don't use phonelines any
more so it isn't an issue, thank goodness.  It used to be though but I had
externals back then.  I had the least hassel with Motorola ones although I
did have a few USR ones back then.  They all worked fine with Linux but I
gave the Motorolas more airtime.
