In Linux there are kernel options to get around the chipset bugs: e.g. noapic required for VIA KT400 (and others). Try disabling the serial and USB ports in the BIOS until you find out if there is a real fix for your chipset. I went the Intel route. Too much trouble with non-Intel chipsets for me. Both Abit AI7 http://www.abit-usa.com/products/mb/products.php?categories=1&model=147 and Gigabyte GA-8IPE1000 Pro http://www.giga-byte.com/MotherBoard/Products/Products_Spec_GA-8IPE1000%20Pro%20(Rev%202.0).htm work for me. -- "Surely God would not have created such a being as man to exist only a day!
