Hello Carol. 25 Oct 02 19:41, you wrote to Russell Tiedt: CS> If the site has a POTS line as well, list it as normal. Among the flags, CS> enter those which are applicable, omitting those that do not CS> apply. This still does not address the problem of marking non-private IP based nodes as PVT. That problem restricts connectivity for IP nodes, causes confusion over which nodes are full-time IP nodes and which are /truly/ private IP nodes, and causes IP based nodes to be treated differently than POTS nodes, in effect, creating first-class and second class listings. Your comments that, "Its harmless for an ION and protects stupid POTS people from making mistakes due to them not being setup right" Is incorrect; it *is* harmful to ION's, and your comments also insult the intelligence of POTS nodes at the same time, by assuming that they are so technically inept as to not know how to configure their systems properly. It's far better to /assist/ those who are having trouble to correctly configure their systems, than to make global accomodations for them at the expense of all others, just because you think a few individuals are "stupid". I'm quite suprised, being a former RC, that you lack any real insight to this issue. This is a problem that /must/ be dealt with if Fidonet is to move forward; ignoring it just makes things worse. The PVT kludge is /unacceptable/, and a much better solution needs to be found. --- GoldED/386 3.0.1-dam3* Origin: MikE'S MaDHousE: WelComE To ThE AsYluM!
