A couple of quick comments on the above (I use it regularly, to compare
floppy backups, and have found it very useful).
Compressing the .EXE with PKLITE 1.5 (other versions may work, too (?))
will re-enable commandline recall via F3 (after all, who only makes one
copy of a floppy backup? ).
*. doesn't function correctly with short filenames; use *.. instead.
I've made Allan aware of the above, (he was approachable, and friendly)
and, hopefully, he'll fix the latter. I think the former problem may
be compiler-related; can anyone confirm or deny this?
Here's VA.BAT; I use it for floppy copy/compares, in a Win9x DOS box:
::KJH/2002 - Requires CT.EXE, Phantom B: drive, valid TEMP EnVar
::Clears floppy cache
{at}echo off
echo.
if not x%1==x goto va1
echo Copy file(s) to A: with compare (requires phantom B: drive).
echo.
echo Syntax: VA [/C] source (use *.. not *.) [\subdir]
echo.
echo /C - Compare only
echo.
echo If optional \subdir does not exist, it will be created.
goto end
:va1
if not x%TEMP%==x goto vac
echo TEMP environment variable is not set
goto end
:vac
if %1==/C goto va3
if %1==/c goto va3
if x%2==x goto va2
if exist a:%2\nul goto va2
md a:%2
:va2
echo Copying file(s), please wait...
echo.
copy %1 a:%2
echo.
goto va4
:va3
dir a:\%$!/b>nul
shift
:va4
echo Comparing file(s), please wait...
echo.
ct.exe %1 b:%2 /n /ba /c2 /loar:%TEMP%\va.log %3 %4 %5 %6 %7
dir a:\%$!/b>nul
if errorlevel 1 goto bad
echo.
echo File comparison(s) successful.
goto klog
:bad
if errorlevel 2 if not errorlevel 5 goto klog
if errorlevel 255 goto dlog
::^ user Break
q %TEMP%\va.log
:klog
if exist %TEMP%\va.log del %TEMP%\va.log
:end
echo.
I run the above to perform 'true floppy compares' in Win9x. I would much
prefer to disable the floppy caching in Win9x, but haven't found a way
to do so. If anyone knows how to disable floppy caching in Win9x, I'd
appreciate hearing about it.
