BL>> If you insure yourself, you have to make sure that you have the BL>> money to cover the insurance, otherwise it's silly. BG>> Furthermore, I think life insurance is a complete waste of money. BG>> I gave up insuring my car a couple of years ago, and for the BG>> first time in 10 years, I let both my house and contents BG>> insurance lapse (although I'm still not completely happy about BG>> that, even though it saves me $400 pa). BG> Given that few burglars are more than simple opportunists, you're not BG> likely to BG> be losing too much anyway, although I still remember the time that the BG> people BG> who lived opposite us on the Comenarra Parkway at West Pymble came home BG> from BG> holidays to an empty house. Even the light and water fittings had been BG> removed, and the house was just an empty shell. Poor bastards. Just as BG> well BG> that they were insured on that occasion. When I lived in Sydney for 6 months in' 76 - '77 (on returning from 2 yr stint amongst all the crime in America ), We were up on the 3rd floor of a 7 story Block in Neutral Bay. If I looked out the kitchen window I could see straight into the lounge of the people below (Used to often watch them making love on the lounge). Well these two both worked for Quantas and were often both away at the same time. One day I looked out to see the place empty. It seems that a removalist truck was paid by someone unknown to go and pickup all the stuff. When the truck driver was questioned by the police after, he told them that the Door was unlocked when he got there (he was told it would be) and all the nicknaks had been put in the couples empty suite cases. The removalists instructions were to strip the place bare and take it to an unused house and stack it all on the front lawn.( as no one would be there, and the so called new owners didn't have any keys yet -- at least they were honest enough to tell the truth) No doubt the lawn was bare the next morning. BG>> I happen to agree with you, although I'm still toying with the BG>> idea of taking out a cheap $50 TPP policy, just in case I hit a BL>> I actually feel happier betting on my own ability than on the other BL>> bastard being able to pay me when *he's* in the wrong. There are too BL>> many on the dole driving wrecks with no assets out there. I wish BL>> they'd make TPP compulsory. BG> jacked up when it reached $300, and told them to fuck off. I just drive BG> extremely carefully now, and save $300-$400 each year, and in 10 years, BG> I'll BG> hopefully be way in front. I bought an Alfa Romeo While I was in Sydney then and had it (in one piece ) right up to 7 am on the morning of Feb 11th 1989. I had just spend $10,000 making it all beautiful again and when I was down in Brisbane I went to all the insurance companies looking for Special insurance. (I wanted to insure it for more than book value). I was told $1030 premium per year and I needed to get a Valuation. WAY TOO MUCH ... Hey, I thought I could save $1030 per year...I used to Race Cars in the Sports sedan class in Adelaide years ago...I've Done defensive driving...Ive always been able to handle the situation...I don't take unnecesary risks....I did not insure the car.. except for the compulsory third party. For 9 or so years (total saving $9270), so I almost saved the same amount as I payed for resoring it. The on the Saturday morning on the above mentioned date, I was coming down the Gilles Hiway on the way from Atherton to Cairns...perfect day...sun was shining... came around a very tight right angle corner at about 30mph and into a cloud of fog...two feet visibility, Couldn't see the bonnet, let alone the 300 foot drop Down one side or the 50 billion tones of dirt & rock that I hit head on. Flipped the car, took the windscreen out with my forehead, Hung upside down by my feet with a broken Back, cracked skull and spinal injuries for half an hour before I got the energy to drag myself out of the windscreen hole and tuck my self under the side of the car (because I was only 5 feet from the white line) to find that I had just filled the car with 70litres of juice and it was now pouring out all over my feet. No insurance and could not claim 3rd party because I could not say that David Drummond was coming towards me on his Honda 50 and shone his lights in my eyes. I was on my lonesome, Still am, as far as insurance companies are concerned. Didn't believe in them then, and don't now. Instant Career change but I still think that I came out ahead. I was told by the Cops & Ambulance that had it been a (this years model anything) that I would be DEAD. ( anything that looked like chrome on that car , was actually 1 or 2mm Stainless steel, it was bloody Solid) Because I did not die, I am able to bore you with writing this (no matter how slow) Because I had to find something to do, I took up computers. Because I took the windscreen out with my forehead, I talk Crap. Because I did not get insurance, I have to use the Fidonet for entertainment. Because I use fidonet to hone my communication non-skills, I have myself thinking that if you all read this crap (test Audience), then maybe I have a chance writing a book, and that the profit can go towards paying for more pills and my new wheelchair. Nah, with the words and communication skills I've learnt in here ....fat chance... ..Then maybe Russell --- Terminate 3.00/Pro* Origin: Electron Migration (3:640/305.55) SEEN-BY: 640/305 450 711/934 @PATH: 640/305 711/934 |
