Maybe I just didn't try hard enough. Dos does work, shelled from
XP on out computers at work. We use it to talk to the production
machines. However, that isn't actually running dos.
I have thought of putting it on with system commander to see if
it will work better. XP machines running dos are notoriously
unreliable. OTOH, I wonder if the hardware isn't as good, as
they don't expect us to use dos, and it may depend more on
drivers than hardware. One of our traveling engineers bought a
PCMCIA card for serial ports, and he says it works good.
