KJ>Happy birthday! Writing ON I-95? What a setup you must have--laptop and
KJ>cellular modem?
Thank you! The big 36. On the downhill slide. Well, not writing ON
I-95, the letters would be too BIG. I have a laptop, and was not doing
the modem thing, but was using my slmr, an off line mail reader to reply
to mail. I d/l'd when I got in that night.
KJ>No experience whatever at day 1 feeding, but a good friend does it all
KJ>the time. She's done a couple lories. I called her and she said to feed
KJ>it 1 tblsp corn syrup, 2 tblsp rice cereal w/applesauce, mixed with
KJ>cooled boiled water mixed to a thin consistency. (Based on Rosemary
KJ>Low's recipe for adult lory food). I will also e-mail this so it gets to
KJ>you ASAP.
Have saved this recipe. Thanks for caring and replying so promptly. I
got your email also. I just had first a bad fall (due to my bad knee)the
same night the baby died, and then had a terrible reaction to a new pain
medication that my doc had given me. Drug called Ultram, and I
never want to see it again. I spent two and a half days prayig
for the party that I felt like I must have overlooked to get
the hangover and nausea and headache that I obviously got from
somewhere. Definitely not a medication for this girl. Any day
I don't want to eat I am really sick, half dead actually. So
the long drawn out point here is that I took my time calling
up for my mail. Ed fed the babies for me and the birds. Other
that a bad headache/neckache from the fall I'm OK now. Just
fed all the babies. Inside now are 1) an older (from Dec)
green cheeked conure and brown throated conure that are about
weaned...! Don't feel bad Kathy-- We fall in love with ours
and want to keep them too... Is how we often end up with
multiple pairs of conures.... 2)the green cheeked's younger
sibling Speedy, a real cutie, 3) two scarlet chested
parakeets, aka splendids, just about grown and eating millet.
4) Four tiels various ages 5) Ijust pulled in four English
budgie babies that are beautiful! A violet, an opaline mauvish
grey, a cobalt, and from another pair a recessive pied violet.
6) two little peach fronted conures, about 3 wks old, 7) 4
more little green cheeked conures, same parents as above,
about two to three weeks old, 8) three little red throated
conures, who are older than they look. They are stunted, and
the vet had them on Harrisons formula to see if they would
turn around and it seems they did. Now they are back on Pretty
Bird with spirulina added. Seem to be doing much better.
That's it for babies for now.
Am waiting to see if Dusky conures hatch, they are fostered to maroon
bellieds. They weren't sitting the eggs well this time. Usually will sit
but not feed. I belong to a dusly consortium here in Fl and everyone has
trouble with the duskies for some reason. Also the blue crowns finally
laid again after we lost their babies in the last (before this one)
freeze. Thank goodness it didn't get as low as the weather people
thought it would here. Relatively warmer tonight, but not enough to
wear shorts like last week. One pair of my Mexican Red Head Amazons have
two eggs. If these are fertile it will be Taco's first. She laid an egg
in her cage last year without a box. Hope the lories will go back to
nest soon.
Again thanks for your help, your support and good wishes for us and the
little lory. It is appreciated. Now wish us luck on round two. I guess
the B&G eggs are the first due to hatch, then the red bellied macaws
eggs.(we had 6 from the big guys and 2 from the minis last year, pr #1
and 2 from pr#2. I kept a young pair of these. They have wintered
indoors and are piggies. Played with them a long time last night and the
ingrates chomped on my arm! They are named Rojito (M) and Bambina (F).
Well I blather on...
Hopefully, your advice will work this year with the cherry heads. You
can't get much more humidity than we get in the summer here in Fl.
unless you move to Louisianna.
TTYL,
Barbara
