Yes I know asparagus really isn't suited to growing here......but
I have heard that sometimes you can keep it going for a few
years, so I thought it might be fun to try. But now that I have
it I don't seem to have a place for it. Now I'm really in trouble
if I have to have a weed free location, weeds do real well in my
garden. Get it all weeded out and turn my back and they're back!
I'm also growing rhubard which doesn't grow here either. Last
year I got a couple of roots from Henry Field's Seed Catalog. I
got them to grow in large containers and they grew enough before
summer came that I was able to harvest one nice load to cook up.
Then the roots rotted. So this year I have 3 roots in containers.
I hope to try and catch them before the summer heat and rain rots
the roots and see if I can dig the roots and put in the
freezer. I dont' know if that'll work or not. But I only spent
$1.97 for the 3 roots. I'll be glad to get anything. Haven't had
real rhubard in years! I love it!
I think the asparagus is gonna be a bigger challenge though. I'm
not sure if I'll even get one meal from that. You mentioned black
bugs, do you know what those are? Are they a weevil or somthing
like that?
