RS> Here are the stats to Paul just before those two calls to Dave. RS> Freq Level RS> 150 36 RS> 300 26 RS> 450 24 RS> 600 24 RS> 750 24 RS> 900 24 RS> 1050 25 RS> 1200 25 RS> 1350 26 RS> 1500 26 RS> 1650 27 RS> 1800 28 RS> 1950 28 RS> 2100 29 RS> 2250 29 RS> 2400 30 RS> 2550 31 RS> 2700 31 RS> 2850 32 RS> 3000 33 RS> 3150 34 RS> 3300 35 RS> 3450 38 RS> 3600 45 RS> 3750 54 BG> Christ, any wonder that I was having trouble with Paul as well! You are having a brain fart there, the problem between you and Paul is primarily because YOUR line is pretty poor. BG> Given FO between exchanges, that extra 10dBm can only BG> be due to the line between Paul and his own exchange BG> being pretty piss-poor, as I already suspected. Thats actually the 10db quirk seen when there isnt a Courier on the other end of the call. The evidence for that is the call Russ made from FNQ with a Courier on Pauls line. RS> Recv/Xmit Level (-dBm) 30.4/13.0 RS> SNR ( dB ) 36.8 Those are also not very meaningful without a Courier on the other end. BG> I'd love to see those same stats with a Courier on Paul's end too. Well, we got that with Russ's calls from FNQ with a Courier and Netcom and Viper on Pauls end. That showed pretty clearly that the numbers basically dont mean a thing unless there is a Courier at each end. Or USR anyway, tho we havent carefully checked that out. BG> The Rx level is around 5-7dB better than BG> my own stats to Paul, but still shitty. They dont mean a damned thing with a non Courier either. RS> Usual nutty close to 10db vertical shift of the whole curve. BG> Yeah, dunno whether to blame the USR-Rockwell BG> syndrome (which gave a 5dB shift in my tests), Thats what it is, the proof was Russ's calls from FNQ. 7db in that case. BG> or Paul's lines. We KNOW what Pauls line is like with the Russ/Paul Courier calls. We ALSO had a call from Russ in FNQ to you and YOURS was much WORSE than the call he made to Pauls USR. So we KNOW the problem between you and Paul is primarily YOUR line. It really stands out like dogs balls if you graph those. BG> Or maybe ~5dB for each might be fairer. Nope, its primarily a problem with YOUR line, which explains why you were the only one to have any real problems with handshaking with Sportster V32bis and Spirit. No one else did with a Sportster V32bis. BG> Have you tried calling any other Couriers yet, like Poe for example? Not Poe, but I did call Arfur to see if the Motorola gave the same effect as the Netcom. Hard to be completely sure without Arfur putting a Courier on the line as well, but it sure looks like the same horiz shift. Also did some very interesting calls to the USR BBS in the USA to see the effect of the 4 different ways you can call the US. Very fucking interesting indeed actually, but I will post it in Aust_Modems coz its likely to be interesting to others on the OS calling question. Looks very interesting indeed graphing all 4 calls on the one graph in a spreadsheet. Very bloody obvious why 2 got 26K type speeds and two got 16K. @EOT: ---* Origin: afswlw rjfilepwq (3:711/934.2) SEEN-BY: 711/934 @PATH: 711/934 |
