WP can, of course, take in your scanned image as a
graphic and handle it as such. I sometimes use my
scanner -> WP graphic -> printer as a copy machine when
I just want one or two copies. It's slow, but faster
than driving to the nearest Xerox machine!
OCR, however, needs OCR software to turn the text
into ASCII text, which WP can then handle. I was
reading some time back about OCR software. The article
said that the very best OCR software with perfect text
to copy and the best scanner has an accuracy of 99%.
That sounds terrific until you realize that you may
have 60-75 characters on a line, so you are going to
have a lot of errors, probably one or more to a line
with most materials.
So, after bringing the text into WP, you need to
correct obvious errors, then run SPELLER, then run
Grammatik, then read it very carefully, then have
someone else proof-read it. I really wanted it to read
in pages mostly of numbers which were in 5 pt messy
type - need I say it was less than useless!
