JL>Re - Partners in Healing - that is for sure. In fact there
JL>is an echo
JL>on Fido for it - SIP_SSAS which is Spouses of sexual abuse
JL>survivors.
JL>I've heard a lot of stories of this on that echo.
JL>(Where the husband or wife or partner of an abused survivor -
JL>a real
JL>one - is suddenly accused of being abusive by the survivor
JL>who is
JL>trying to recover)
Thanks for drawing my attention to SIP_SSAS. If I can locate someone
knowledgable about literature and research it would be quite usefull. The
professional knowledge is certainly not wide spread.
JL>Re - the much over-worked flashback - I have had them, they
JL>are real,
JL>but in my experience not a detailed thing, but more like
JL>memories of
JL>FEELINGS (awful ones) I don't know if this is true for
JL>everyone or not,
JL>but that is how I experience it.
JL>Many therapists believe that if they've read the book COURAGE
JL>TO HEAL
JL>it makes them a specialist in survival issues. It does not.
Spotaneously refeeling a strong emotion may be a more common event than
"therapists" recognize. It may be the result of a false correlation that
flashback have come to be indicators of "post traumatic stress disorder."
Reading your description is something I recognize from my personal
experiences. I have such experiences frequently--intense grief, regret,
embarrassement, fear--all associated with identifiable events whose visual
component are not as intense. Not all such refeelings are painfull! I can
remeber a weekend...OOOOO...well, I had better not relive that here. I hope
you have some good refeelings, too.
