Sounds like a good sales pitch anyway. I know some people who
were told (and believed) that buying a big dish would
give them HBO free for life. That was a long time ago --
in the late 70's and early 80's before scrambling.
Then a few years later some believed that a pirated VC board
would fix them up for life.
Perhaps the dealers who spun those wild tales
really believed it? Perhaps the sales people who are pushing
the digicypher now really believe their pitch too?
Actually I must say that a digicypher might be a
better investment now than a pirated VC board was way
back when. However, I would want to make sure that
most of the programming would be available for me to
buy before I spent a lot of money on something.
Also I would expect to be able to buy the programming
for just a little more than cable companies pay for it.
That has not been the case with C-band programming in
the past. Will digital programming be reasonably priced?
Since most C-band customers do not seem to care that they
are paying way too much for programming now, I doubt
that anything will change :(
