I forget where I read it,but I recall that Jim Shooter,upon reading
issue 135 of uncanny x-men,decided that Phoenex, having ate the sun of
the aliens  that were introduced way back in avengers 4,vol 1, had
crossed the line in directly causing the deaths of several billion
intelligent life forms, & had crossed the line from hero to a mass
murdering villian,& thus, a mere "Psychic lobotomy just was'nt
punishment enough,& she HAD to die to pay for her crimes.X-men 137, was
nearly turned into a two parter.As is,its one of the greatest classics
marvel ever published.It ranks up there with spidy 121,for shock. I
remember it bringing tears to my brothers eyes.
