BL> If you insure yourself, you have to make sure that you have BL> the money to cover the insurance, otherwise it's silly. BG> Furthermore, I think life insurance is a complete waste of money. Depends. If you have a house loan that doesnt provide protection against the death of the main wage earner, it can be worth insuring the main wage earner so the wife and kids arent in very deep shit indeed if you die. Corse it depends on what your super etc does if you die too. BL> I insure the house because I don't bet that big, but I don't insure the car BG> I gave up insuring my car a couple of years ago, and for the first time in BG> 10 years, I let both my house and contents insurance lapse (although I'm BG> still not completely happy about that, even though it saves me $400 pa). Yeah, there is a small risk if its empty a few times a year. What some people do is ring up and get a quote on insurance, get them to provide a cover note while you claim you are scrutenising the policy booklet for gotchas, just before leaving. When you get back you bin it. Thats not very viable in your case tho being away quite a few times a year. Its pretty bloody rare tho that a house where the owner has gone away burns down as long as you arent bushfire prone. Most suburban houses arent. BL> The worst happened 8 years ago and it cost BL> me $5,000 but I *still* don't insure the car. Yeah, its one of the better risks if you have some confidence that you wont be causing accidents yourself. Its not an unthinkable amount of money anyway, you could always buy a bomb if the worst comes to the worst and the car is a writeoff and you cant claim from anyone. Lots of people feel like Bob does that its an acceptible risk. BL> With 15 years before and 8 years after, I'm a mile in front. Yeah, there is a real sense in which its just self insurance, people like us have the capacity to organise things like that. BL> It's good, cheap, insurance. True, self insurance always is if you can organise it, it cuts out the overheads supporting those parasites in the insurance company offices. BG> I happen to agree with you, although I'm still toying with the idea of BG> taking out a cheap $50 TPP policy, just in case I hit a Ferrari or somethin Sure, but its still got to be your fault or say your cars fault. BG> There are suddenly too many $500,000 cars on the road for my liking... Thats SE QLD for you, parasite heaven, usually wearing white shoes |-) @EOT: ---* Origin: afswlw rjfilepwq (3:711/934.2) SEEN-BY: 711/934 @PATH: 711/934 |
