How specific do you want this. I could just quote the 1541 Rom to you, but
that would be impractical...

Basically, the IBM needs to wait for ATN (The ATtentioN line, pin 3 of the
serial port) to go High (or low, um, er, my memories a bit scattered at the
mo), and then check to see if it's being called... if it is, then it wait
for the command to be sent. If it's the load command then it would need to
find the file (wherever on the HD it is) and transfer it... The only hard
part is the timing...

Well, the hardware part invloves a line level convertor (similiar to an
RS232 adapter) and the cable. We are trying not to involve any special
software on the 64 end...
