If anyone needs hotel info, please email me privately. I have a
list I compiled for another group that I would be happy to share.
There are 3 hotels/motels within a couple of blocks of the Zoo and Zoofari
Center and many others within 5 miles, all price ranges.
Several good restaurants within blocks and 3 major shopping centers
all within 10 miles.
One other thing about registration. Paula said that arrangements
were just finalized yesterday (3/7/96). The Milwaukee Zoological
Society will be announcing this event in their next newletter.
This society has more that 20,000 families as members! The
conference is going to fill up fast. Don't put off calling if you
want to go. Advertising to the general public should begin in late March.
Other bird things to do in Southeastern Wisconsin:
The aviary at the Milwaukee Zoo is considered one of the best
in the world. While it is not large, it specializes in endangered
birds. (Sorry, no parrots at this time, but some really wonderful species
that are housed in absolutely unique, natural settings.)
The entire zoo is great. Some really great exhibits including
underwater viewing of polar bears, sea lions and penquins, an operational
milking parlor-after all, we are the Dairy State,
a brand new reptile/amphibian house that features native WI fish
in a huge central aquarium call Lake Wisconsin, a unique collection
of primates that includes the rare bonobos and lowland gorillas.
Zoo is also heavily involved with the Trumpter Swan rehab program. Several
pair live on the lake in the zoo. (In case you can't tell,
I really like this place.)
The Kaytee Education Center at Chilton, WI, a few hrs drive from
Milwaukee is open to the public on Fri & Sat from 9am-6pm. (Tues thru Thurs
for group tours by special arrangement)
This announcement has been sent to CAGTAG-L, COCKATOO-L, CONURE list
and Fidonet-Parrots. (Sorry about the duplication for those of you
on more than one of these lists.) Please feel free to share it with
any other interested lists or clubs. This is a really unique
opportunity for those of us in the Midwest to hear experts of this calibre.
folks rarely visit this area for public speaking engagements.
Anyone who is going...please let me know. Maybe we can do lunch
after and discuss parrots and the talks.
