The Israeli's didn't want anybody - obviously including the US - from collecting
and analyzing electronic emissions (electronic reconnaissance) from their forces.

Note that in one of Mimi's posts she said that I wasn't in the pilots' cockpits
and couldn't know what they were thinking.  One doesn't have to be *in* those
cockpits to know what the pilots are thinking, all one has to do is listen to 
what they (and their ground controllers) are *saying* - and that is exactly what
the USS Liberty -> *and a USAF RC-135 on orbit 50 or so miles away* <-
were doing, all of it was - and probably still is - on tape; and since NSA -
like the Russians - never throws anything away, typed transcripts of the 
conversations on those tapes are probably also still on file, most likely in
storage at Fort Holabird, MD.
