Not quite.  They are usually software modems now whereas before they were
hardware.  They can keep them.

Yes but the external ones are hard to find.  I haven't seen any since way
back when.  Certainly none around any of the stores in the major suppliers
around these parts.  They push the crappy pci ones, no matter what
manufacturer.  Again, they can keep them.
