Bob, at 08:39 on Apr 11 1996, you wrote to Russell Brooks... BL> I did that in smoke once. A farmer was burning off, I drove into BL> the dip, and suddenly... which way did the road go? I was lucky I BL> guessed right. It's amazing how much you rely on your eyes, and how BL> lousy your memory is in a situation like that. You are left with an BL> "impression" that the road sort-of goes left. I know the feeling quite well. Way back in 1970, I was riding my Harley on the old Pacific Highway near Wyong, middle of the night, no other traffic, no moon etc., and halfway around a fast left-hander, the headlamp blew! Switched to high beam, but it had gone as well. It was like being inside a bloody cow, and now I know how a blind person feels. Oddly enough, when I finally came to a screaming stop, I was straddling the centre-line, and all I had to do was replace the headlamp, then clean the shit off the bike's seat...
