I think you hit on it there--she feels safer on you when strangers are
around.
As for the curtains, are her wings clipped? If not, they should be, for
her own safety (so she can't get out an open door or window
accidentally). Clipping also takes some of the bite out of the bird in
many cases.

Jendays are lots of colors--gold/yellow head, red-orange chest, green
back, wings and tail with blue flight feathers and blue tips on the tail
feathers, black undersides of the wings. A very nice combination.
