Or the memory where it loads is corrupt causing it to display an incorrect

     My guess... You have an onboad PCI/IDE controller (no 'slot' is used but 
it still uses a PCI bus which is built into the motherboard).

     As you can tell from above, I would suspect faulty memory (or possibly 
faulty memory circuits on the motherboard). I won't say it's "not" a virus, 
but I would be very surprised if it was.
     A quick way to tell... If you have another system, move the hard 
drive(s) 
to the other system. If you have a virus, it will be moved with the drives. 
If 
the problems disappear then the problem is in the hardware of the first 
system.
