LR> I had to smile here, Roger. I can see where you would indeed get
LR> bored. First and foremost, you have to be a *railfan* as well as a
LR> scanner enthusiast. I listen to 6-7 frequencies for local RRs. Not
LR> all the time, mind you, but whenever nothing much is happening on the
LR> police/rescue channels. I can hear where local commuter trains are
LR> located and where they're headed. Sometimes I will hear a funny story
LR> about someone who was booted off the train. I can hear about delays
LR> and why. I can even hear if there is an accident at a crossing. On rare
I recently did a return trip by rail between Montreal and Toronto
and listened to the train's freqs. both ways. I knew over my
earphone why there were delays or mechanical problems on the
train. It gives you a special feeling to be in the know and
in touch with the operators.
