To properly use an NCR 810, your motherboard must offer bios support. Have you verified that your Aptiva has proper bios support? Even though OS/2 doesn't use the bios for disk i/o once the driver is loaded, the bios is necessary for proper initialization at boot time. It may be that the controller is not being initialized correctly. Users of motherboards without explicit bios support for Symbios/NCR SCSI chips should use the Symbios (NCR) 815 instead. The NCR 815 has its own onboard bios. Under OS/2 the bios is primarily used for initialization during booting. I'm unaware of any way to reload the drivers without rebooting. One interesting programming project would be to write a freeware driver for the NCR based on the Linux source code. IBM has made the OS/2 DDK free via its web site. Such a driver could be made to accept commands via user mode utilities. --- Maximus/2 3.01* Origin: Enlightened Board (703) 370-9528 (1:109/615) SEEN-BY: 50/99 270/101 620/243 625/160 711/401 409 410 413 430 808 809 934 SEEN-BY: 711/955 712/407 515 624 628 713/317 800/1 @PATH: 109/615 17 7 396/1 270/101 712/515 711/808 934 |
