It's been a good week in politics (and a hearty hello to you DUmpster divers): 1. You just thought enemies lists disappeared with Tricky Dick. Well, they are back full force as Obama and the ballerina who serves as his chief of staff paint Rush Limbaugh as Public Enemy Numero Uno (whatever happened to Osama bin Laden and Bernie Maddof?). Like the lemmings and intellectual lightweights they are, all Obama's supporters can muster up to talk about these days is Rush - just another voice in the market place of ideas that liberals are so frightened of. And notice what the lemmings talk about - his weight, the way he dresses and his past addiction to pain killers - anything but his ideas. Howard Kurtz is reporting that since Emmanuel/Obama have declared a dunderheaded war on Rush, his ratings have doubled. If this ratings surge lasts, Limbaugh will soon be pulling down $170,000 per broadcast. 2. English Prime Minister Gordon Brown pays a visit to the US and is snubbed by the Obamas. Brown brings Obama a pen holder made from wood of the anti-slave ship HMS Gannet, sister ship of the HMS Resolute whose wood was used to make the Oval Office desk. Obama gives Brown 25 movies. A hastily thrown together joint press conference takes place not in the East Room as is traditional but in the Oval Office. England is our most trusted and longest standing ally. For now. 3. Secretary of State Mrs. Cigar Rodham Willy pledges almost a billion to nation build in Gaza after Hamas took a pounding there at the hands of the IDF. Almost certainly, Hamas will get its hands on this money and buy weapons with it, which will further escalate violence in the Middle East. Israel is our most trusted ally in the Middle East. For now. 4. Commentators both left and right are commenting on Obama's apparent addiction to his teleprompter. At speaking events both big and small, White House staff arrive early to make sure the boss's prompter is set up and working. The effect of the prompter is that Obama rarely makes eye contact with either the people in attendance at these events nor the people watching on television. Watch him and notice that his eyes move constantly left and right and very rarely look forward; eye contact, which is key to establishing trust, is rare to nonexistant. Another effect of the the prompter is that when it breaks, Obama's soaring oratory begins to disintegrate into cringe-inducing babble (recall his embarassing, no-prompter attempt at discussing ashtma during the campaign). Is our generation's greatest orator nothing more than our nation's most famous reader? 5. On the Larry King show, Liberal talk show host Stephanie Miller accused Rush Limbaugh of treason and wondered aloud if he should be put to death for it. Neither Larry King nor Arianna Huffington gave even the slighest reaction to this bizarre suggestion. Since 2003, many liberals - not all of course, but many, including the kitty-loving Archie - celebrated our every defeat and mistake on the battlefield. They post the American body count with great relish. They call Guantanamo Bay Auschwitz. They celebrate the death of political voices on 911. But I don't remember Republicans (and some democrats) doing much more than condemning these comments. Visit the DUmp and read the weird calls for violent retribution against Republicans. More than once, I have read that I should be publicly ridiculed, sent to prison or kicked out in the street and shot behind the ear. This dangerous sentiment is now moving into the mainstream. 6. For those of us who still place some value on our Constitution...Article I Section 9 prohibits anyone holding office in the US from accepting a title of nobility from any foreign government or monarch. How does this prohibition affect Ted Kennedy, who was just awarded knighthood by Queen Elizabeth? --- Microsoft Outlook Express 6.00.2900.3138* Origin: Fidonet Via Newsreader - http://www.easternstar.info (1:123/789.0) SEEN-BY: 10/1 3 34/999 120/228 123/500 128/2 140/1 226/0 236/150 249/303 SEEN-BY: 250/306 261/20 38 100 1381 1404 1406 1418 266/1413 280/1027 320/119 SEEN-BY: 396/45 633/260 267 712/848 801/161 189 2222/700 2320/100 105 2905/0 @PATH: 123/789 500 261/38 633/260 267 |
