I just joined this echo in hopes to contact any users who have successful
experience with IBM VOICE TYPE and the Corel Suite of applications.
I am particularly having problems figuring out how to get the VOICE dictation
to work with Quatro Pro 8.
I was testing Voice Type version 3.0 on a Win95 machine. I haven't studied
the
online help (seems like a rather daunting task) ..but what's the trick to get
it to enter numerical values in Quatro Pro 8 for example?
The VoiceCenter seems to work fine; I can open top menu commands and
recite any of the submenu items and the system seems to take me there.
Dictation into the VoicePad also seems to work fine. But a great asset
would be the recitation of numerical entries into a database. HOW DO I
DO THAT? What's the trick to get numbers or words entered into a
cell?
When I had the cursor on a cell, and the microphone ready, and started
saying practically anything logical I could think of such as Enter,
Number, 1234, the system just responded with "Pardon me"? ...and then
suddenly I got what looked like a fatal error: It looked something
like: QWP = caused an invalid page fault in module QPW.EXE", and there
was something that looked like a hex dump after that. The only thing I
could do was abort the application and loose any possible changes that
were made. Not a good sign! :( Anyway... I guess I should have
expected something like that because I really didbn't know what I was
doing... but I tried to be reasonable and intuitive about my recitation
test.
The database needs a lot of numerical entries. Dictating them would be
a good way to minimize potential errors - and a bit more fun. Telling
the computer's VoiceCentre to "Go to sleep" or "Wake Up" draws a few
bewildered stares from passers-by.
