I'd rather just use Delphi, but at work it is all politics...I can use Visual
Basic and/or MS Visual C++. I wont get into which is the best, but having
made some attempts to do Windows Programming C++ (Borland C++ 3.1 and OWL) I
know how much of a pain in the butt it is. I have no intention of writting
GUI's in anything but a RAD environment. Delphi is wonderful for that and
also quite powerful, robust and all that. I also like Pascal's readability as
compared to C/C++. I'll continue to use Delphi for along time to come at home
and when I can, but at work it is VB for GUI's and maybe sneak in some Delphi
produced DLL's and ActiveX controls (when version 3 comes out) and say I
found them on the net . Since all the software I write at work is used
internally, I can use PD source code and products and they don't care too
much about that. Since GUI would be in VB, they can support it and if they
don't like the controls and DLL's I use, they are free to use something else
or write their own if I have to turn the code over to someone else. The fact
that it is written in VB should keep the Boss happy. As long as my controls
and DLL's are stable and functional, they shouldn't even question it anymore
than using a 3rd party tool where we have no source code.
I still think they are stupid to not want Delphi used in house, it is such a
powerful productivity tool.
