Heh :<) I didn't have any Catholic friends, so I missed that bit of lore.
Of course, everyone in my neighborhood knew about the alligators.
As for the 5" cockroaches, that didn't seem entirely out of line given the
size of the American cockroachs down South. And now there's an Asian variant
around that not only flies like the American cockroaches but isn't afraid of
light.
