"Iffiness" had NOTHING to do with the quality of the call to the BBS,
Jeff. What I was referring to were your two uses of "if" (above) ...
that the Wizard's going to make a (most probably long distance) call
to the bbs to find out IF there's new code then, IF there is, proceed
to download and install it. (This is, of course, the way we used to
do it before widespread access to and use of the internet ... making
a LD call just to see if something was available.) Those of us who
can and do use the SDL and who're using a flat rate ISP can use the
web or ftp to ascertain whether a new version's available and get it
at no additional cost for the call(s).
