subject: assy SUB/FCTNs access st

Hi y'all;
I have been writting a number of assembly subs and functions where I
read and modify strings. As some of you probably already know, PB
strings have an extra layer, using string `handles' rather than just
pointing to the data area.
Surely there is an elegant way of accessing strings passed to
assembly modules.
For instance, I want to call an assembly SUB like any other SUB. eg.
MySub MyString$
I want to be able pass a literal or a simple string, or an array.
I want the SUB to find out where the string is and set local
pointers to it, like SI and DI. That way I can access and modify the
string as needed.
I would also want to be able to incorporate this into FUNCTIONs.
I like the see some snippits of assembly code showing how string vars
are accessed. I need to read them and sometimes I need to modify
their contents and maybe even the length. I know shorter is easier
than longer.
Any PB/assembly gurus out there willing to lend a hand to this ol'
boy?
