If you had the books in your hand today, you could be taking the test by the
end of this month. Then, if you fail it the first time, you have 30 days to
study before you can take the test again. You should be able to take the
test at least twice before we get to June. If you've got any inkling of what
makes electronics work (power supplies), a little bit of radio knowlege
(FM-PM modulation, RF propagation) and the basic FCC rules will get you a
tech-plus license.
Unless you live out on the back 40, there should be at least one HAM oriented
store in your vacinity. Radio Shack seems to have the basic stuff, but if
you can find a store that caters to the Amateur community, you should be
able to find the ARRL study materials and more.
... Unstrap me, damn it, I want to clap too!
