Well, I said there would be aother message with more news, lots of news, so
here it is!
An executive meeting was recently held and many things were discussed. Among
them, some ideas to make sure we were reaching everyone who is a member, so
that
nobody feels left out. We discussed implementing a mailing list - I'm not too
sure how to go about it but we do have excellent help there and I'm sure it
will
get sorted out soon. Apparently all you need is email, and I know that Juno
and
Hot Mail are free. Let us know if you are interested.
Another discussion centred around the NNG Bylaws. We will be voting soon on
the
editing or removal of some of the bylaws, but of course, this will be a
member-
wide vote and not the executive only. In particular, Article I section 3
states Membership in the NNG shall remain open; those persons requesting
membership to the NNG shall have access to the FidoNet Cross_Stitch
onference
and shall be in good standing with the Cross_Stitch conference rules. Sadly,
many members do not get anything Fido, and of course, the Cross_Stitch
onfer-
ence is not an echo anymore, so these articles and any that mention the old
echo must be revised. Once again, when we put bylaw matters to a vote, all
he
current membership will be notified and voting will be done via net mail or
email
If you need a copy of the bylaws, please let me know and I'll send you one.
We also discussed a possible web page, so if you know how to set one up, once
again, we need to hear from you.
Okay, now the really good news. We have decided to have a "Monthly Theme".
Each month, the NNG will be focused on one or two particular things. So far,
we have taken care of May, June and July. If you have any ideas for other
themes and would be willing to contribute to the effort, let us know. Don't
forget, by sharing a bit of your expertise or your opinions, you are helping
everyone. This does not have to be a major committment, so don't be afraid
you have to give more than you are willing to. I just wanted to emphasize
that this guild can only be as good as it's membership makes it. Please do
some
thinking aobut monthly themes and how you might be able to give just a little
of yourself.
So....do you want to know what the first three monthly themes are???
The first one is "Executive's Appreciation Giveaway"! In order to say thank
you to all the people who spoke up with a positive comment or just an "I'm
still interested in being a member" I have put all your names in a hat and
made a drawing for a free, yes I said free, giveaway. More to follow.
The second theme - for June. Gail will be capturing all "favorite shops or
favorite mailorder places" so June will be "Favorite Places" month. She will
be sending all members the list she is making up from all your submissions,
o
if you have a favorite place, please let her know.
July is "Newsletter" month. Lonnie is putting together a newsletter with
articles,
a free pattern, a contest, plus maybe even a surprise interview with a
designer.
If we do manage to get a web page, this newsletter could probably go there.
n
any case, all members will receive one.
So that's our "new look" so far. Do you have a favorite theme you'd like to
suggest? Do you have any items for another giveaway month in the future? The
items for this month came from me, Gail Church and Lonnie Foley.
One favour I would like to ask of you, and I'm sure the moderator of the echo
would agree. If you are responding to any of my messages through the echo,
would
you use a title like NNG news or NNG ideas or something with the letters NNG
in it. In this way, non members won't be inconvenienced by reading posts that
are not important to them, and the moderator will know we are talking about
NNG things. Of course, anyone in the echo is free to read any posts but will
just not be able to participate in the giveaway or the newsletter, nor will
they get a hard copy of the favorite places listings.
Stay tuned for yet another message!
