subject: cd rom?

hi!
I have some weird stuff going on here, and it involves my cd-rom. Well
I like to rip off cd-das and play around with them. The grabbing time is
sort of a mystery to me. I have an 24x ide (creative).
I have several freeware programmes to help me out. I use Alfons, Leech,
and Dido (for win 3.11).
Alfons and Leech can rip a song in about the same time it takes to play
the song... pitiful. =<
Dido (written a few years ago) can rip a song 4.5 times faster than it
takes to play a song.
All of these programmes run under os/2, and I am wondering why my
cd-rom or the software for the cd do not rip songs 24 times faster. btw:
I know I can not expect a rip of 24x, but my average spin for the inner loop
is 11.1. I would like to know if this situation is due to my os/2 settings
or many a programme setup flaw.
     thanks in adv.
