subject: Noise on audio inputs

I read a message from a Power Macintosh 8500/120 user that they were having
trouble recording music via their RCA audio inputs because of a noticable
amount of noise. Since I also own a PowMac 8500/120, this issue probably
also applies to me. However, I haven't done any audio recording via my audio
inputs, so I don't know this issue from any personal experience.

However, they said that they had heard that a lack of grounding on the inputs
could be the cause. Is this true? If so, what would you ground the inputs
to? The chassis of the computer? The power supply (which you're supposed to
touch to discharge static when you futzing around under the hood)?

I assume audio applies to audio when concerning issues and whether it's to do
with home stereo or computers has no bearing. However, I could be wrong, so
correct me as need be.
