Agreed. My point was the switching is automatic.

Don has stated that the drives he's trying to use are SCA, which stands
for Single Channal Attachment, or something like, that because the
connector carries data, power and addressing. He is using adapters to
allow him to connect the drive to a wide SCSI. As others have noted,
these adapters come in a wide variety of qualities. Some work. Some
don't.
