We've had Hitachi's in operation going on 24 months now, no problems so
far.

Never liked IBM's, although they did sell their HD business to Hitachi
I'm told. For SCSI, we usually use Seagates, with the odd Fujitsu.
Fujitsu's tend to run hotter, though.

One of the 3ware's, sorry don't recall the part number offhand. We're
in the process of building a new server for a client that will have 5 300
gb SATA drives configured as raid5 for data, and two 40gb SATA's as raid1
for boot. (on a dual Xeon motherboard)

Agreed, however SATA has proven to be just as fast, and cheaper.
