Type "help basedev" (without quotes) at a command prompt, and you'll
learn basedev= entries are always loaded before anything else. So what
you really did is to have the ide basedev= executed as last *.add
basedev. In other words, you've moved the ide basedev *.add behind the
sym8xx.add.
As this resolved the problem (temporarily), you can be pretty sure there
is a conflict between your onboard ide and your add-on scsi. Could be
just drivers are in conflict, and then it is an OS2 issue, could be the
conflict is at hardware level, and then it is a mobo issue or a
scsi-card issue. If the same card works well on other computers, then
you can be pretty sure it is a mobo question.
Question: is this a brand new mobo?
