Well, I see you did not live in NY long enough to appreciate urban
legends. I see I got you with the giant roach one.
Yes sewer chickens.
Back in the 50's and 60's the Catholic kids would get little chicks for
Easter. Once Easter was over they would get rid of them. THe legend goes
that they would throw them down the sewers.
Now, the Jewish kids would visit Grandma in Florida, the legend goes,
and bring back baby alligators. As soon as they got too big, the kids
moms would throw them down the sewers. After a few year they woudl grow
to giant alligators because they would feed on the sewer chickens.
