Howdy All!
Anyone have any ideas how to use the formula bar functions to count the
number of times a specified text string occurs in a table?
I designed a table to keep track of the work done on my assigned files and
want to have WP do all the calculations for me. The basic arithematic stuff
has worked quite well but I'm quite stuck on how to do a summary of types of
actions.
Let me briefly describe my table. Each row is a merge record with 11 fields
(columns). Two of the columns have codes for what action was taken on the
particular record. The first column asks for a choice of "C", "U", or "I".
The second asks for "CH" and/or "O".
I have WP adding up all my various perfectly but can't get a handle on how
to tell me how many of each of the above text strings there are ie 5 "C"
3 "I" etc.
I have used the following functions from the formula bar, Count & Value.
Unfortunately, both seem to have a true or false logic to them. It doesn't
matter what characters are in the cell, it just returns the number of cells
with data in them. Thus my query response ends up as 5 when there are 3 "C"
and 2 "I". I need to tell WP to discriminate between the actual characters.
I have only looked at the Functions available in formulas to date as I am
not yet comfortable with Macros but would be happy to do so if I can get
pointed in the right direction.
We use WPWIN 6.1 (COREL) on Pentium 133's with 32 MEG of RAM. I look forward
to all suggestions.
Take Care & God Bless!!
