Yes, the SupraFAX modem that I have sitting on my desk is worth something
like $45 if I trade it up for a Supra 56k one.
I think a more likely upgrade option is for me to send in the old 2400bps
internal no-name brand modem collecting dust in the closet for a Hayes 56k
modem. That will cost me a grand total of $99 plus shipping/handling. Then
when the Hayes modem comes in, I can replace my Supra modem with it. Sell the
Supra for $150 or so, and actually come out ahead on the deal. And experience
no down time.
I have no problem paying $50 or perhaps even a $100 (if I can keep my
existing modem until the new one arrives) for an upgrade. But when I'm told
the modem I have is worth less than $50 to upgrade to another modem provided
by the same manufacturer, I have to wonder what's the point.
The 2400bps modem I have is worth over a $100 to a company who never made it
or even sold it to me. Why would my Supra 28.8 be worth 1/2 that amount to
Supra?
