Lots of communist gov's still in operation (PRC, Vietnam, Cuba). Equally
socialism itself (if tied to a democratic choice by the people) is no
longer seen as a threat per se as well (i.e. if the Chileans voted for a
new Allende today I doubt the US would support a new Pinochet).

Nope the Nazi gov is gone for good. Has to be said though that the US
entered WW2 because (a) you were attacked & (b) Germany declared war on
