subject: Possible Network

          While riding a dragon bareback,
          Tony cried out: Possible Network
TL> JT> Both computers would run OS/2 Warp 3.0 Connect. Computer 1 has both
TL> JT> TCP/IP and IBMPEER, but Computer 2 only has IBMPEER.
TL> JT> Is it then possible for Computer 2 to connect to Computer 1 (via the
TL> JT> LAN), start a PPP session on Com2, and then view web pages using Web
TL> JT> Explorer on Computer 2?
TL>
TL> You need to add 2 things: Firstly, install TCP/IP on the second PC.
Is it better, then, to simply install TCP/IP on both computers, and leave out
the IBMPEER network? Or should both be installed. I would also like to do
work on my machine from mom's from time to time.
TL> You need this to access the Internet at all. Secondly, unless you have
TL> a range of reserved IP addresses, you'll need to install InJoy (and
TL> register it) on the machine that dials the Internet, to allow the second
TL> PC to access the Net, by means of a technique known as IP masquerading.
Ok, so do I need to set up both machines with a default IP address ... like
255.255.255.1 and 255.255.255.2, and just have each one routed to the dynamic
address I get when In-Joy would connect to my provider.
(As you can probably tell, I know absolutely nothing about networking outside
of what I've read here. )
TL> JT> Also, is it possible to boot IBMPEER without the LOGIN screen coming
TL> JT> up? Just curious, in case of power failures. I wouldn't require
TL> JT> separate login for each member of the family, as on my machine
TL> JT> (Computer 1), I would only share those dirves/directories that I
TL> JT> choose to share.
TL>
TL> I believe this is possible with a NET LOGON command in the startup
TL> sequence somewhere.
Hmm ... just checked and I can't find a LOGON command for the NET command. ;(

... Power corrupts. Absolute power is kind of neat.
