BL> (chuckle) The Melbourne was good at running things down. Now we BL> know why... the radar techie was always seasick. RJ> I cant accept any responsibility for what happened before I RJ> even JOINED the navy. What a weak excuse! RJ> The "Voyager" and the "Frank E. Evans" were only two of the RJ> many prangs the "Melbourne" had. There was an unofficial score RJ> sheet kept (much like the pictures ace pilots had on the side RJ> of their planes) and the last I saw, she had scored 2 RJ> destroyers, 3 ferries (one in Sydney Harbour), 27 "bum-boats" RJ> (small out-rigger canoes that swarm out of Manila Harbour to RJ> sell you anything from dirty pictures to their sisters), 1 RJ> submarine (Australian) and 14 aircraft. If we'd been at war, RJ> they would have given the ship a medal. Pity that all her RJ> victims were "friendlys". TTFN. Bob. ROFL! It makes you think war is dangerous, or something. I've never forgiven the bloody Argies for taking the Faulklands. We were all set to buy Britain's jump-jet carrier (I forget the name, Wonderful?) when Maggie Thatcher suddenly realised she needed it to stage any sort of attack offshore! I know carriers make good targets, but I don't believe you can have a serious Navy without one. You just *have* to carry your own fighter aircraft, or any second-rate enemy can knock the hell out of you with any cheap plane better than a helicopter.
