Greetings Struther,
--------------------
SM> But we're still waiting for you to get it launched in
SM> Cobourg and sail it down to NYC where I'll "allow" you to dock
SM> beside SYNAPSE - Paul Bond may not allow it, but I certainly
SM> would!... speaking of moving it - I was telling my ex-neighbour
SM> Ken (you met him last year) about your intended purchase, and he
SM> suggested you contact him before any other arrangemnts are made
SM> to move it west.... he works at the airport as something or
SM> other in the shipping business! That's what he does, MOVES
SM> things - so he may be able to help you out in the relocation
SM> arena for "Jingles"!
--------------------
I already spoke with Walter and he told me there is no room at
the club for a 41 and even if there was, I'd have to pay $1,200 for a
senior membership. He also said that the only way I could get her in is to
stay at the visitor's dock as a visitor which will not cost much! Sheesh,
try and figure that one out .
I talked to Andrew's Trucking and they will ship JINGLES to Point Roberts
(U.S. side... saves me having to pay GST) for $8,000. This includes an
escort in B.C., but doesn't include a $1,200 permit fee for a wide load.
They say they likely will not be asked to produce such a permit and if they
are, I will only have to pay from the point at which they are stopped which
may then only cost a few hundred. If your ex-neighbour can do better, that
would CERTAINLY be helpful! My only concern is that she be insured by the
shipper during the trip, and that the shipper is qualified and experienced
in moving large yachts over long distances - I trust they would use an air
suspension trailer. Andrew's says the trip would probably take about a
week. This sounds like a long time and a lot of money to me. If you
figure it out, fuel will probably cost $1,000; the driver will probably get
payed about $600; the truck will probably take about $500 in wear - so
where does the other $6,000 go? Seems to me that it should be easy to find
someone competent to ship her for about $5,000. Geez, I talked to CanAm
and they want $8,500!! Does he know of anyone?
As I post this, JINGLES is in the water and ready to set sail for
Toronto. What will happen next, I do not know... should I ship her to the
west coast immediately? Or should I let her sit in TO until June so that
we can have our floatilla? Hmm... tough decision.
Cheers,
